Metropolitan State University Admissions
Freshman admissions at Metropolitan State require applicants be in the top 50% of their graduating class; an ACT, PSAT, or SAT score above the national median; and a GED or diploma. Applicants must submit a complete high school transcript and a non-refundable $20 application fee. All students new to Metropolitan State must attend New Student Orientation, a comprehensive session of information exchanges and open meetings intended to acclimatize new students to the Metropolitan State experience. The New Student Orientation agenda includes an overview of campus services, academic advising, and information on all of the University’s academic programs. Students are assisted in learning about the campus, choosing a major, and even identifying the appropriate courses of study for their particular field. All incoming students must also submit to a Diagnostic Assessment, as required by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. The Assessment is intended to evaluate a student’s current aptitude in mathematics, reading, and writing. In cooperation with academic advisors, students then can select courses that are best suited to their academic needs. The Assessment is not remedial; rather, it can provide correct placement for those students who exceed particular requirements and are suited for a higher level of education. Incoming students with 16 or fewer credit hours must also enroll in Metro: 101, the Metropolitan State University general education course, intended to introduce students to the learning environment at the University and ensure they are fully prepared for university life.
